Larkspur, Delphinium nuttallianum ?

Common throughout our area in open grassland or pine forests. 
Kinnikinnik, Arcostaphylos uva-usi:

A great and fast growing, low shrub ground cover.  Full sun to partial shade.  One of the best local natives.
Lupine, Dry Ground, Lupinus aridus:

A short growing lupine that blooms prolifically.  Plant height about 6-10", with flower spikes to 12-14".  Grows in dry rocky locations with good drainage but does very well in typical garden soils.  Cut flowers back after bloom.

Planting tip: with all these Lupines, do not disturb the root ball when planting.  Make sure the plant is watered well before planting then when taking them out of the pot, make sure the soil does not fall off the roots. 
Silky Lupine, Lupinus sericeus:

Very common in the Spokane area.  Can grow to about 2' or more.  Best cut back flowers after bloom. 


Mock Orange
, Philadelphus lewisii:

Deciduous shrub, 7-9' Grows vigorously and flowers well.  Very showy white flowers.

Ninebark,
Physocarpus malvaceous:

Up to a 7' tall deciduous shrub. An attractive shrub for partial shade.  Fits well into native gardens and woodlands.

Ocean Spray,
Holodiscus discolor:

Deciduous shrub, 6-8 ', nice cream colored plumes of tiny flowers.  Grows well in open woodlands.

Onion, Allium sp. 

Good rock garden plants.  Plant in groups for a good show of flowers. Plant bulbs in fall.

Cutleaf Penstemon, Penstemon richardsonii

Grows in rocky soil in the wild. Grows up to 18" in the wild but will quit a bit larger in the garden and may need staking.  Blooms in late summer and through the fall.

Penstemon Shrubby,
Penstemon fruitcosus:

Very showy and a hardy grower.  Woody stems, up to about 18" high and spread to 3' in diameter.  Blooms in late spring.  Full sun and can tolerate sandy or gravely soil.  Good for bank stabilization.

Rocky Mountain Penstemon
Penstemon strictus:

2-3' Blooms early summer, sun or part shade.  Likes dry conditions.

Phlox, Cushion,
Phlox hoodii

Low growing plant 3-5", for the boarder or rock garden, in full sun.  Can tolerate dry rocky soil but becomes brown in summer. White flowers in early spring.

Phlox, Long Leaved,
Phlox longifolia: 

Not available this season.

Grows in sun or partial shade, up to 12" or more.  The more sun the bushier and sturdier the plant.  White to pink flowers in spring.

Prairie Smoke or old man's beard
, Geum trifolium:

A very useful plant from the open pine forests.  Sun or partial shade.  Interesting red, nodding flowers then followed by feathery seedheads. Spreads by underground stems.  A great and interesting garden plant!
Pussytoes, rosy everlasting, Antennaria rosea:

A wonderful compact boarder or rock garden plant growing to about 14".  One of our best sellers. Interesting flowers and easy to grow. Cut back flowers after bloom.
